Mallojaponin is a hydrolysable tannin found in the bark of Mallotus japonicus. This compound contains the moiety elaeocarpusinic acid, an oxidized hexahydroxydiphenic acid group (dehydrohexahydroxydiphenic acid or DHHDP) which reacted with a dehydroascorbic acid molecule.
